Your Frigidaire fridge is supposed to be dropping ice on demand — but lately it's been dropping absolutely nothing, and now you're buying bags of ice like it's 1987.

What's Actually Going On

When your Frigidaire ice maker stopped cycling and you're getting zero ice cubes, the first instinct is to panic and call a repair tech. Pump the brakes. The most likely culprit is the ice maker assembly itself — not the water line, not the freezer temp, not some mysterious electrical gremlin. The assembly contains the motor, mold heater, and thermostat all in one unit, and when any one of those internal components checks out, the whole module stops cycling. It doesn't partially work. It just… stops.

Here's the thing a lot of people get tripped up on: they check the water supply line, find it's fine, and then assume the problem is somewhere deep and expensive. Nine times out of ten it's not. If your freezer is holding temperature (should be around 0°F), your water line has pressure, and the ice maker arm isn't stuck in the raised position, you're almost definitely looking at a failed ice maker assembly. The module itself is the problem.

Frigidaire ice maker assemblies don't really degrade slowly — they tend to just quit. One day you've got ice, the next day you don't. If it's been silent for more than 24 hours and your freezer temp checks out, trust the diagnosis. The assembly is done.

The Fix

This is genuinely one of the more DIY-friendly repairs in the appliance world. No soldering, no special tools, just a quarter-inch nut driver and about 20 minutes.

  1. Unplug the refrigerator. Non-negotiable. Don't skip this.
  2. Open the freezer and locate the ice maker — it's mounted to the upper left wall in most Frigidaire side-by-side and top-freezer models.
  3. Lift the wire shutoff arm (if present) and disconnect the wiring harness from the assembly. There's usually a locking tab — press it and pull.
  4. Remove the two or three mounting screws holding the assembly to the freezer wall. Keep track of these.
  5. Pull the old assembly straight out.
  6. Slide in your new 241798231 Frigidaire Ice Maker Assembly, line up the mounting holes, and drive the screws back in snug — don't overtorque.
  7. Plug the wiring harness back in until it clicks.
  8. Lower the shutoff arm, plug the fridge back in, and give it a full 24 hours before you declare victory. The first cycle fills the mold; it takes time to freeze and dump the first tray.

Part 241798231 runs right around the $50–$70 range depending on where you grab it. We keep these in stock at the Piedmont shop — no waiting on shipping, no guessing if it's the right part.

When to Call YAP vs. DIY

DIY this one if you're comfortable with basic hand tools and you've confirmed the freezer is cold and the water supply is good. This is a bolt-in replacement and the skill floor is genuinely low.

Call YAP if you've swapped the assembly and still no ice after 24 hours — at that point something else is in play (inlet valve, control board) and we'll help you figure out the next step fast. Ring us at 405-876-8100 and describe what you've already tried.

Frigidaire fridge no ice is a solvable problem, and part 241798231 solves it the majority of the time. Swing by the Piedmont shop and we'll hand it right over the counter — or text 405-876-8100 if you want to confirm availability before you make the drive.
