Your LG washer is banging around like it's trying to escape the laundry room, the spin cycle sounds like a helicopter taking off, and now there's a UE or UB error code mocking you from the display. Yeah, we know this one.

What's Actually Going On

The LG UE error code (or UB on some older models) stands for "unbalanced error," and your washer is not wrong — something is genuinely off-balance inside. The first thing most people do is redistribute the load, run it again, and wait for the same code to pop back up ten minutes later. That's because an unbalanced load isn't always the real problem. A lot of the time, your suspension rods have given up.

Front-load and some top-load LG washers use a set of suspension rods to keep the inner drum stable during the spin cycle. Think of them like shock absorbers — they're supposed to absorb the movement and keep the drum from going wild. Over time, the plastic and spring components inside those rods wear down, lose their damping ability, and basically just let the drum thrash around freely. When that happens, even a perfectly balanced load will trigger the LG washer unbalance error because the drum can't stay centered.

This isn't a freak failure, either. If your machine has a few years of regular laundry on it, worn suspension rods are one of the most common reasons for this exact complaint. The good news: it's a very fixable DIY job, and the part is cheap compared to a service call.

The Fix

You're looking for part number ACQ88190101 — that's the LG Suspension Rod Kit, and it fits a wide range of LG top-load washer models. It comes with the full set of rods so you replace all of them at once (not just the one that looks the worst — trust us, swap them all).

Here's how the job goes:

  1. Unplug the washer. Non-negotiable. Don't be that person.
  2. Remove the top panel or cabinet depending on your model — usually a couple of screws at the back and the panel slides or lifts free.
  3. Locate the suspension rods — they connect the outer tub to the top frame at four corners, each one hooked in with a plastic cap at the top and bottom.
  4. Unhook the old rods one at a time. Note the orientation before you pull them — the cap end sits in a specific seat.
  5. Snap in the new rods from ACQ88190101 into the same positions. They should click firmly into place.
  6. Reassemble the cabinet, plug it back in, run a spin cycle empty, and enjoy the silence.

The kit typically runs in the $25–$40 range depending on where you grab it. We stock it right here at YAP, so you're not waiting on a shipping delay to get your laundry life back.

When to Call YAP vs. DIY

DIY this one if you're comfortable removing a panel and can follow a numbered list — seriously, this repair is well within beginner territory and the LG suspension rod replacement pays for itself in about five minutes compared to a service call.

Call YAP if you've already replaced the rods and the UE error or violent shaking is still happening — at that point we want to talk about your drum bearings, shock dampeners, or whether the control board is misreading sensor data, and we can help you figure out which direction to go.
