What's Actually Going On

The HE error code on a Samsung dryer stands for Heating Error, which is Samsung's polite way of telling you the drum is not getting hot enough — or not getting hot at all. The control board monitors the temperature inside the drum during the cycle, and when it doesn't see the temps climb where they should be within a set window, it throws the HE code and shuts things down to protect the machine (and your house). So no, it's not just being dramatic.

Now, HE can point to a few different culprits — a bad thermistor, a blown thermal fuse, a clogged exhaust vent — but in our experience here at the Piedmont shop, the single most common cause of Samsung dryer no heat and the HE error code together is a failed heating element. These elements run hot every single cycle, and over time the coil inside physically breaks, killing your heat output entirely. The dryer runs. The drum spins. Your clothes stay damp. Classic.

The part you're after is the DC47-00019A — that's Samsung's OEM heating element assembly, and it fits a huge range of Samsung electric dryer models. Before you go assuming it's something more complicated, pull this part first. Nine times out of ten, this is your answer.

The Fix

Here's how to tackle a Samsung heating element replacement without losing your mind:

  1. Unplug the dryer. Non-negotiable. We're not doing this hot.
  2. Pull the dryer away from the wall and remove the back panel — usually 8–10 Phillips screws around the perimeter.
  3. The heating element housing sits at the bottom of the back panel area. You'll see it immediately — it's the rectangular metal can with wires attached.
  4. Disconnect the two wire harness connectors from the element and the high-limit thermostat that sits on top of the housing.
  5. Remove the two screws holding the element housing in place and pull the whole assembly out.
  6. Transfer the high-limit thermostat from the old housing to the new DC47-00019A assembly (two screws, easy swap).
  7. Drop the new element in, reconnect your wires, button the back panel up, and plug it back in.
  8. Run a timed dry cycle on high heat for 10 minutes to confirm you've got heat again. You will.
