You opened your dishwasher expecting clean, dry dishes and instead found a puddle of gross standing water staring back at you — and now there's an E24 blinking on the display like it's personally offended.

What's Actually Going On

The Bosch E24 error code means your dishwasher tried to drain and failed. That's it. It's not a mystery, it's not a motherboard meltdown, it's a drain problem — and nine times out of ten it's one of two things: a kinked or clogged drain hose, or a dead drain pump. Bosch is actually pretty good about giving you a specific error to chase down, so let's not waste that intel.

First thing to check before you order anything: pull the dishwasher out slightly and inspect the drain hose running to your sink drain or garbage disposal. A kink in that hose is embarrassingly common and embarrassingly easy to fix. While you're back there, check that the knockout plug in the garbage disposal was removed when the dishwasher was installed — if it wasn't, congratulations, that's your problem and it costs you zero dollars to fix.

If the hose is clear and the knockout plug isn't the issue, your eyes need to go to the filter and the drain pump. Pop off the lower spray arm, unscrew the filter assembly at the bottom of the tub, and look for debris — broken glass, a stray bottle cap, a cherry pit (we've seen it all). If the filter is clean and water still won't move, the drain pump motor itself has likely given up. The impeller jams, the windings burn out, or a piece of debris locks it solid. At that point, the part is the fix.

The Fix

Here's how to handle a Bosch drain pump replacement once you've ruled out the hose and filter:

  1. Disconnect power — unplug the unit or flip the breaker. Non-negotiable.
  2. Turn off the water supply under the sink.
  3. Pull the dishwasher out and lay it on its back or side so you can access the pump from below (put down a towel — there will be residual water).
  4. Locate the drain pump — it's on the bottom of the sump assembly, usually secured with a quarter-turn lock or two screws depending on your model year.
  5. Disconnect the wiring harness and the drain hose connection from the pump.
  6. Swap in the new drain pump — for most Bosch 300, 500, and 800 series dishwashers affected by the E24 error, the replacement pump you want is 00611316.
  7. Reconnect the harness and hose, lock the pump back into the sump, stand the unit back up, and run a short cycle to confirm the drain clears.

Part 00611316 is the OEM Bosch drain pump and it's what we stock here at YAP. Genuine Bosch parts fit right the first time — no adapter gymnastics, no "close enough" nonsense. Call or text 405-876-8100 and we can confirm it's the right fit for your specific model number before you make the drive.

When to Call YAP vs. DIY

DIY this one if: you're comfortable pulling an appliance out from the wall, you can identify a wiring harness without panicking, and you've already confirmed the hose and filter aren't the culprit. This is genuinely a beginner-to-intermediate repair and a great one to knock out yourself.

Call YAP if: you're not sure whether it's the pump or something upstream, your model number doesn't match what you're finding online, or you just want to talk it through before buying anything. That's literally what we're here for, fam — no shame in it.

Swing by the shop in Piedmont, OK, grab part 00611316 off the shelf, and get that dishwasher draining before you're hand-washing another load. Or text us at 405-876-8100 and we'll have it ready for pickup. Either way, that E24 error doesn't have to ruin your week.
